A community bike ride through Pittsburgh's historic Hill District reflecting on freedom, belonging, and the unfinished work of democracy

As part of the Civic Futures series on democracy and civic engagement, this ride invites participants to reflect on how democracy is shaped by questions of belonging, power, and historical memory. In recognition of Juneteenth, we will explore the ongoing work of reckoning and reconciliation, and consider how histories of exclusion and resilience continue to shape who democracy is for and how it is practiced today.

What to expect:

  • Ride through the Hill District, exploring its legacy as a center of Black culture, creativity, and civic life
  • Hear “Global Stop Talks” - short, impactful remarks from community leaders
  • Engage in conversation with fellow riders about the ongoing work of civic renewal
  • Connect with neighbors and community members through shared experience and dialogue
Enjoy a relaxed, no-drop ride welcoming participants of all experience levels

Meeting place TBA closer to the ride. Plan to arrive at 4:30PM to check in and get ready to ride. The group will depart promptly at 5:00PM.

Hosts

This event is hosted by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. Additional partners to be announced.
